About the museum
The Antiquarium opened in April 2010 in the east wing of the Quartiere degli Spagnoli, a 16th-century military building in Milazzo on Via Impallomeni, also known as the “Casermette” (the barracks). It is now run by the Parco archeologico di Tindari.
The route unfolds across ten rooms with 25 display cases and bilingual information panels. The finds are presented in chronological order and illustrate the results of archaeological research carried out in the Milazzo area since the end of the Second World War, from the pre-Greek prehistoric and protohistoric cultures to the Byzantine period.
Among the most significant rooms are the fifth to seventh, devoted to the Greek period, with painted pottery. The museum tells the story of the historical importance of ancient Mylai and its territory.
