About the museum
The Museo etnografico dell’Alta Val Tanaro is located in a private house in the historic centre of Ormea and recreates the typical domestic setting of the valley at the beginning of the 20th century.
On the ground floor visitors see the workplaces of the carpenter, the blacksmith and the basket weaver. On the first floor a kitchen with a laid table and a bedroom have been reconstructed; on the second floor there are a room with religious furnishings, an area for processing milk and chestnuts, a reconstructed playroom and women’s work room, and a classroom with old desks.
The route, conceived as a “percorso della memoria” (memory trail), shows through the faithful reconstruction of some domestic settings how much everyday life has changed.
