About the museum
The museum is on the second floor of the Torre Bizantina in Biccari and was officially opened on 28 November 1999 with the presentation of the initiative “I fili di Arianna”. The rooms tell the story of the farmhouse, work in the fields, craftsmanship and the folk religiosity of the people of the Monti Dauni.
The route explains the social context of the town and the value of folklore in a community’s culture, with everyday objects and tools, images of popular devotion, and instruments linked to farming, herding and craft work. Each object has an archive number linked to a caption that explains its use and meaning.
The educational section has a study and documentation room; the photographic archive and bibliographic sources are available to scholars and students preparing their theses. In its early years the museum hosted a monthly programme, “L’ultima domenica di ogni mese” (The Last Sunday of Every Month), with workshops, exhibitions and tastings.
