About the museum
The Museo Etnografico di Morigerati began in 1976 as a permanent, privately managed exhibition, based on the collection of thousands of objects assembled by Clorinda Florenzano and her sister Modestina (Fondazione Florenzano). In 1994 it became a public museum owned by the Comune di Morigerati and is today one of the demo-ethno-anthropological museums of the Cilento.
The collection documents the traditional culture of the Cilento municipalities of the Bussento river valley. Over 900 objects are on display, dating from the late 19th century to the 1960s, divided into thematic areas. On the ground floor are terracottas, farm tools, a carding machine and wine containers, together with a permanent photographic exhibition. On the first floor are sacred garments, missals, textile artefacts and the tools of the carpenter, the blacksmith, the candle-maker (cerarolo) and the shoemaker.
Visitors can also see a multimedia room with films on the main traditional festivals of the area and on some craft processes, as well as the sound collection “Voci di Donne”, with biographies of peasant women of the town.
