About the museum
The Museo Etnografico di Ortonovo, in the Parmignola valley, is housed in the former olive mill of the Colombara, a building already in existence in the 16th century and later remodelled. The whole complex was restored in 1990, the year the museum opened, with floors and window frames redone in traditional materials. The large wheels of the mill were powered by the water of the Parmignola stream.
The route reconstructs the production cycles of oil, wine and grain and the related processing methods, with animated images, stories and photo galleries, and compares them with those of today. In the display cases and along the walls are objects of the rural civilisation of the Luni hills, such as vine pruning shears, the sickle, the ladle and the jug.
