About the museum
CAM – Cultures And Mission is the cultural hub of the Istituto Missioni della Consolata, housed in the institute's historic building between Corso Ferrucci and Via Cialdini in Turin. It was born from the union of two legacies: on the one hand the Museo Etnografico e di Scienze Naturali, which from the first decades of the 20th century collected and organised the objects brought back by missionaries; on the other the former Centro di Animazione Missionaria, where for more than forty years training and missionary spirituality activities took place.
The premises have been renovated, including work funded by the PNRR to remove physical and cognitive barriers. The permanent exhibition route, titled “Il viaggio”, is multimedia and tells of the experience of encountering other people and cultures; alongside it are rooms for documentaries, a meditation room, a workshop for children and young people and the Sala dei Popoli for meetings and events.
The collections comprise thousands of ethnographic objects, coming mainly from Africa and the Amazon but also from Asia, as well as natural science collections (zoology, mineralogy, malacology), a specialised library and a large photographic and audiovisual archive.
