About the museum
The museum documents daily life in the small ground-floor houses of day labourers and workers and the work in the workshops and farmsteads of the Hyblaean plateau. The collection began in the early sixties; the museum was inaugurated in 2004 and is dedicated to Nunzio Bruno.
The rooms present pastoral life and agriculture, the palio with horses, tailoring and sewing, the farmhouse with bread-making, pottery, containers and weaving, the wheelwright’s workshop and “a putia”, the shop. The objects include grain processing and livestock rearing, and the trades of the shoemaker, beekeeper, tinsmith, cooper, knife-grinder, mason, basket-maker and weaver, as well as folk pottery, antique toys, stone artefacts and tools of the oil mill and the palmento (wine press). The museum is part of the Rete museale etnografica iblea.
