About the museum
The museum grew out of the collection of Ettore Guatelli, who arranged the rooms of the house in which he lived at Ozzano Taro, a hamlet of Collecchio, with over 60,000 objects of everyday use: tools, household utensils, toys, containers, shoes, clocks and suitcases. They are not precious pieces in the traditional sense, but testimonies to the life and work of the common people.
The display does not follow canonical museum criteria: the objects are placed side by side and repeated in visual compositions that cover the walls, on the idea that there is an art of putting things in order so that they can tell their story. Guatelli imagined a museum open both to the distant past and to the future.
Today the museum is run by the Fondazione Museo Ettore Guatelli; it is a non-state museum accredited to the regional museum system of Emilia-Romagna and to the national museum system. Besides preserving Guatelli’s work, it promotes research, educational activities, routes in the area, events and exhibitions.
