About the museum
The museum is housed in the Francioli family home, a building dating back to the 17th century in Villimpenta, in the Mantuan area. The family began collecting material in the 1980s; in 1991 the Fondazione Francioli Nuvolari was set up, and in 1993 the museum opened to the public.
The collections include documents belonging to two figures of the Mantuan Risorgimento, Dr Giovanni Nuvolari and engineer Carlo Francioli. Alongside the documents, farm tools and objects from rural life are on display, and a more recent section is devoted to the history of the rice fields.
