About the museum
The museum was set up by the Comune di Perinaldo in 1997 and is dedicated to Gian Domenico Cassini, the astronomer born in the village who later worked in Genoa, Bologna and Paris. The route also recalls his descendants Giacomo Filippo and Gian Domenico Maraldi, likewise astronomers and cartographers from Perinaldo.
The display brings together documents, observation notes, drawings, letters and portraits that illustrate Cassini’s intense scientific activity and the stages of his life. The village keeps a strong link with astronomy: the municipal astronomical observatory offers themed meetings and evenings of observation open to the public, while along Via G. D. Cassini murals and a scale model of the solar system form a small open-air museum.
