About the museum
The museum opened in 1995 in the historic centre of Pigna, beneath the square, at the foot of the church of San Michele. It covers about 200 square metres across five rooms and is dedicated to the land, its produce and the memory of rural life in the Upper Val Nervia.
One room tells the story of lavender and recalls Aristide Martini, a local herb expert to whom the invention of the double-coil still is attributed. Another is devoted to the valley’s food products, such as the white bean of Pigna (a Slow Food Presidium), black bread, herb ravioli, pisciarada, mushrooms and chestnuts. This is followed by the permanent display of agricultural tools and an ethnographic section on the life and traditions of the farmers.
