About the museum

The museum occupies an ancient 16th-century forge that appears among the possessions of the Bailo family in the 18th century. In 1879 it passed to the Sanzogni family, who specialised in producing agricultural tools and continued the business until 1984. After years of neglect, the Comune di Sarezzo bought the building in 2001, restored it and turned it into a museum.

The route, which has both museum and ecomuseum character, illustrates the traditions of iron working in the Valle Trompia and is the first stop on the Via del Ferro e delle Miniere of the Ecomuseo di Valle Trompia; the museum is also part of the Sistema Museale di Valle Trompia. The main hall houses three large trip hammers, while on the first floor are the Sanzogni collection, with tools and products of local blacksmiths, and the Pellegrini collection, with over 200 scientific instruments from the 20th century.

For younger visitors there are the Fucina Ludoteca del Ferro and the Piccola Miniera, a reconstruction of a mine gallery.
