About the museum
The Joyce Museum in Trieste was created through an agreement between the civic library “Attilio Hortis” and the Department of Humanities of the University of Trieste, and was made possible by a generous donation from Dominic Martin. It is conceived as a dynamic institution that gathers materials on the period Joyce spent in the city and promotes knowledge of the relationship between the Irish writer and Trieste.
Today the museum can be visited within LETS – Museo della Letteratura a Trieste, at piazza Attilio Hortis 4, alongside the Museo Svevo and the Museo Saba. The route is organised in sections on Joyce in Dublin, Joyce in Trieste (1904–1920), the relationship between Joyce and Svevo, and the Paris and Zurich years.
The Adriatic city played a key role in the life and work of the writer, who lived there for a long time and wrote part of his work there. The museum also offers a Joycean itinerary and hosts the events of Bloomsday, the annual festival dedicated to Joyce.
