About the museum
The Museo Kere is an ethnographic museum devoted to rural life and traditions. Its name recalls Ceres, the goddess of grain. It was founded in 1997 by a local association, thanks also to donations from residents and the director Augusto Russo.
It is housed in the former parlour of the Conservatorio delle Vergini, an educational institution for noblewomen founded in the early 17th century. The display spans two floors: on the ground floor are farm tools for processing grain and for the grape harvest, reconstructed workshops of a carpenter and a blacksmith, and several types of carts drawn by oxen. The upper floor reproduces domestic interiors, including a rustic kitchen and a bedroom.
The museum also holds an archive of photographs, interviews and questionnaires gathered among the local population on popular traditions: tools, festivals, rites, songs and nursery rhymes.
