About the museum
The Museo Michetti, also known as MuMi, is the seat of the Fondazione Michetti in Francavilla al Mare, next to Palazzo San Domenico. The Foundation was established in 1952 to honour the memory of the painter Francesco Paolo Michetti and has held the status of ente morale (legally recognised non-profit body) since 1955. Its main event is the Premio Michetti, established in 1947 as a national painting award.
The museum permanently holds two large canvases by the artist, “Le Serpi” and “Gli Storpi”, and presents a selection of works connected with the long history of the Premio, which over time has involved leading artists and critics of 20th-century Italian art.
Besides the collection on display, the spaces host each year the exhibition linked to the Premio Michetti and other cultural initiatives promoted by the Foundation.
