About the museum
The mineralogical museum of Semproniano, in the province of Grosseto, was opened on 4 August 2007 and is part of the Sistema Museale dell’Amiata. It is run together with the cultural association La Piazzoletta, which also offers events and educational outings for schools and socio-educational centres.
The route is developed over three rooms. The minerals are arranged by geographical area of origin and accompanied by panels explaining the composition, origin and geomorphology of the territory, with information on the mining activity of Monte Amiata and the nearby areas. Some specimens are of considerable size.
A systematic collection brings together samples that are now hard to find. Guided tours are accompanied by printed material, and the museum forms part of an integrated route with the Parco Museo delle Miniere dell’Amiata.
