About the museum
The Parco archeologico Città del Tufo was established in 1998 to bring the main archaeological sites of the Comune di Sorano, in the Maremma, under a single management. Since 2004 it has been part of the Musei di Maremma system.
The park comprises the Etruscan necropolises of Sovana (Poggio Felceto, Poggio Prisca, Poggio Stanziale and Sopraripa), the Vie Cave of Sovana and of Sorano, and the rock-cut settlements of San Rocco and Vitozza. The Vie Cave are ancient routes cut by the Etruscans into the tufa, with walls that in some places exceed 20 metres, as in the Via Cava di San Sebastiano.
The sites of the park also include the Museo archeologico di San Mamiliano in Sovana. Guided tours are planned, and there is a bookshop.
