Exhibition devoted to Abraham Brueghel, one of the leading painters of the Brueghel family, who in the seventeenth century renewed still life with rich and theatrical compositions, meticulous in their naturalistic detail.
About the museum
The Polo culturale Pietro Aldi, in Saturnia in the municipality of Manciano, is dedicated to the nineteenth-century painter Pietro Aldi, born in Manciano in 1852 and died young. It was promoted by Banca TEMA and the TEMA Vita ETS foundation of Grosseto as a means of enhancing the area, and it opened around 2016, so that in 2026 it celebrated its tenth anniversary.
On the first floor is the permanent display, set up in a new architectural structure inserted into the building. Panels trace the artist’s biography: he trained from 1864 at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Siena, and the display presents studies and sketches, nude academies, drapery studies, portraits, subjects from ancient history such as the early Iphigenia, and historical-literary themes. A large section is devoted to the epic of the Risorgimento and to the decoration of the Sala del Risorgimento in the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena, entrusted in 1883 to pupils of Luigi Mussini’s school. There are also the painted palettes that artists gave to friends and admirers, and works on loan from the collection of Franco Frulli and from the antiques dealer Francesco Cannucciari.
The centre also hosts temporary exhibitions, a multimedia room, the Biblioteca delle Muse with a lending service and, on the ground floor, a library for children and young people. It also offers educational activities for schools of all levels, for universities and for the public.
