About the museum
The MuDA is a historical and archaeological route devoted to the Regno giudicale d'Arborea (judicial kingdom of Arborea) and to the Marmilla area, with particular attention to the history of the village of Las Plassas and its castle, also known as the Castrum Marmillae. Designed and built in 2010, it was opened on 18 May 2013.
It is housed in Casa Diana, a 19th-century Campidano-style house, and was created in scientific agreement with the Institute of History of Mediterranean Europe of the CNR (Italian National Research Council). The working group included the historian Giovanni Serreli and the archaeologists Giorgio Franco Murru, Gabriella Uccheddu and Francesca Carrada; local groups also took part in the realisation, such as the re-enactment company Sardisca.
The visit, described as immersive, uses multimedia rooms, interactive games and touch screens to tell the story of medieval life in the Arborea region. Finds from the castle excavations, including an inscription, a carved ashlar block, local, Italic and Iberian ceramics, and bone and metal objects, are displayed in cylindrical transparent cases, accompanied by films on the production and use of the objects. An audio guide takes visitors to the ruins of the castle.
