About the museum
The museum is linked to the world of amateur bird keeping and belongs to the Federazione Ornicoltori Italiani (F.O.I., the Italian Federation of Bird Breeders). It preserves, studies and displays birds, both species living in the wild and those bred by people. Its distinctive feature in the Italian museum landscape is the presence of specimens linked to local breeding.
The museum is in Via Caorsana, in the Le Mose area of Piacenza. On the ground floor are a large hall and three complementary rooms; on the first floor there is an exhibition and teaching room, another room, and a room with books and objects on amateur ornithology. The collections include more than a thousand specimens.
In the courtyard is a large aviary with small exotic birds and with local wildlife birds that have been rescued, which are looked after so that they can be released or kept in a domestic setting. On the first Saturday of the month the courtyard hosts an ornithological exhibition and swap meet.
