About the museum

The museum opened to the public in 2023 in Priverno, in the Palazzo San Giorgio, a 13th-century civic building in the historic centre. The project comes from the Fondazione Il Giardino di Archimede and is due to the mathematician Enrico Giusti, a native of Priverno: his interactive exhibition, which had already travelled to several Italian cities, was permanently installed in the town in 2018 at the request of the municipal administration.

The route is mainly educational and aims to show how present mathematics is in everyday life. The main sections are devoted to the geometry of curves and to Pythagoras’ theorem, which is also presented as a puzzle to be reassembled by hand. Alongside the displays, workshops take place on topics such as numbers and the calculations of the Sumerians, secret writing and multiplication techniques.

After the death of Enrico Giusti in March 2024, the museum was named after him in a public ceremony on 7 December 2024. The initiative is supported by the Comune di Priverno with a contribution from the Regione Lazio.
