About the museum
The EtnoMuseo Monti Lepini is based in Piazza Risorgimento in Roccagorga, in the Palazzo Baronale. More than a collection of objects, it is a route built on ethnographic fieldwork carried out by Antonio Riccio, Emilio Di Fazio and Donatella Occhiuzzi with the direct involvement of local residents.
The museum presents local culture from the ethnographer’s point of view, through reconstructions, conceptual installations, playful simulations and atmospheric stage sets. It documents how the feelings, skills, ways of life and sense of belonging of the community changed in the twentieth century, giving prominence to intangible aspects: stories, relationships and musical traditions.
Particular attention is paid to the soundscape of the Monti Lepini and to musical repertoires and knowledge. Among the materials the museum mentions is the group photograph taken in 1992 in the village square, with more than 3,000 people, which was taken again about fifteen years later.
