About the museum

The museum grew out of the passion of Vittorio Tessera for the Lambretta, which began when he was fifteen. Together with his brother and friends, Tessera founded the club “Amici del vecchio scooter” (Friends of the old scooter), opened a workshop restoring vintage scooters and over time expanded the collection to include paper archives and 19th-century bicycles.

In 2001 the municipality of Rodano made a large hall available for a temporary exhibition, which attracted hundreds of visitors and led to the idea of a permanent museum. On 21 January 2006 a purpose-built venue of over 400 square metres was opened in Rodano. As the collection grew, the display was moved to a hall of around 800 square metres, which also houses the CasaLambretta business.

Today the museum presents over 180 scooters from many countries. Six rooms trace the history of the scooter: the large “Arena” hall is devoted to the Lambretta, a separate room to prototypes and competition Lambrettas, and there are sections on the pioneers, on the Vespa, on Italian scooters of the 1940s and 1950s and on German, Austrian, British, French, American and Japanese models. A small section shows bicycles from the Draisine of 1820 to a Columbia of 1899. The founder has also acquired the historical Innocenti archive, with more than 5,000 photographic negatives, 45 promotional films, original construction drawings and period catalogues; the paper materials are shown on request because of their fragility.
