About the museum
The museum is housed inside the Rocca Sforzesca of Soncino, the fortress built by Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza from 1473 to a design by Bartolomeo Gadio and completed in 1475. In 1876 the fortress passed to the Comune through the testamentary bequest of the last marquis of Soncino, Massimiliano Cesare Stampa, and in 1883 it was restored to a design by Luca Beltrami.
Part of the fortress’s spaces houses the collection of the local Associazione combattenti e reduci, supplemented by private collections. The objects document the wars of the 19th and 20th centuries and include firearms, helmets, medals, uniforms and identity documents, among them relics linked to a Garibaldian volunteer.
The museum is visited with the ticket for the Rocca, which also includes the Museo archeologico Aquaria.
