About the museum
The museum was created for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Corpo nazionale dei Vigili del Fuoco (National Fire Service) and houses the collection of vehicles, documents, equipment and historical memorabilia that the historical archive had held for a long time.
The most important part of the photographic holdings, unique for its richness and completeness, concerns the Second World War: three volumes of over a thousand photographs and an almost complete collection of around 4,000 restored original negatives. A further 4,000–5,000 images document the years before the war up to the present day. The archive also holds vehicles of various eras and sizes, equipment and documents that tell the history of the corps from the 18th century to today, largely kept in different locations. The museum also functions as an educational centre on fire safety and fire prevention.
