About the museum
The museum occupies the second floor of the castle of Rocca de’ Baldi, built as a defensive fortress in the 13th century and transformed into a noble residence after major works in the 17th and 18th centuries. From 1675 the castle was home to the Marquises Morozzo della Rocca, and between 1923 and 1973 it housed an agricultural institute for war orphans.
The route of the Museo provinciale storico-etnografico “Augusto Doro” traces the history of agriculture from its origins to the 20th century, the changes in the landscape, and the ethnographic and anthropological aspects of Piedmontese peasant culture, with maps, topographic charts, videos and photographs. Large images by the Swiss researcher Paul Scheuermeier are on display, along with photo collections by the American photographer Clemens Kalischer.
On the first floor, a section is dedicated to the Morozzo della Rocca family. The garden has a Lebanon cedar and an experimental orchard.
