About the museum

The “Cavalier Giuseppe Avena” museum complex is housed in a historic palazzo in the centre of Chiusa di Pesio, in the Valle Pesio, and brings together several sections devoted to the history and culture of the valley. One part is devoted to the Regia Fabbrica di vetri e cristalli (royal glass and crystal factory), founded in Turin and moved to Chiusa di Pesio in 1759: it was the main glass industry of the Savoy states until 1854. The same section displays ceramics, an expression of the valley’s long craft tradition.

An archaeological collection presents the bronzes of Monte Cavanero, more than three hundred finds from almost three thousand years ago linked to the work of a bronze caster active at the beginning of the 8th century BC. The Museo della Resistenza offers a photographic exhibition on the years 1943–1945 in the Valle Pesio.

The complex also includes a study centre and organises educational workshops for schools and groups at the Polo didattico “Mario Beria”.
