About the museum
The Museo Storico Militare “Vidotto” was born in Jesolo from the passion for military history of Franco Vidotto, a former bersagliere of the 8th regiment, discharged in 1969. After many years of collecting memorabilia, in 2014 he decided to open the collection to the public by establishing the museum.
The collection occupies a three-floor building, with themed rooms devoted to the history of the Italian and foreign armed forces and police: rare uniforms, period documents and other material from the 20th century onwards.
An important part is the armoury, which brings together the light weapons used by most armies over the last 150 years, from the Italian Model 91 rifle to the Garand, as well as the machine guns of the First World War. In the adjoining garden are displayed Second World War artillery pieces, Cold War armoured vehicles and an Italian Army helicopter. Visitors can also walk along a reconstructed First World War trench.
