About the museum
The museum is located in Chiappi, one of the hamlets of Castelmagno, an Occitan municipality in the upper Valle Grana. Its Occitan name, “Lou Muzeou dal Travai d’isì”, can be rendered as “museum of work from long ago”. The rooms gather the old tools once used for work in the mountains of the valley.
According to the municipality, the collection is part of a small network of local museums dedicated to the material culture of Castelmagno. It is joined by the “Lou Pichot Muzeou d’la Vita d’isì” in the hamlet of Colletto, with everyday objects, items relating to the work of Castelmagno emigrants and old means of transport, and by the project “Una casa per Narbona”, which plans to rebuild some original interiors of the abandoned hamlet of Narbona in a future ecomuseum at Campomolino.
