About the museum
The Filigosa necropolis lies at the southern foot of the hill of the same name, where the Ruggiu nuraghe stands, not far from Macomer, in the Marghine. This hypogeal domus de janas necropolis gave its name to one of the cultures of the early phases of the Sardinian Eneolithic, the Filigosa culture (3100-2500 BC), and was used from the middle of the 3rd millennium to the beginning of the 2nd millennium BC.
So far it consists of four multi-chambered hypogea carved into the tuff rock: three at the foot of the rise and one at a higher level. The tombs have access corridors (dromos) that follow the natural slope of the rock; in the antechamber there are cup-marks on the walls and, at the centre of the floor, a circular hearth, while tomb I also preserves a funerary bed carved into the rock. These features reflect the cults in honour of the dead and the idea of the tomb as their dwelling.
Domus IV is the only one reused for new burials in the Nuragic period, and on its façade it has courses of stones that recall the front of the giants’ tombs. The area preserves traces of continuous occupation until the Roman period.
