About the museum
The museum is housed in a building dating from the mid-19th century, built as a country residence for local landowners. It retains features of the traditional Sardinian house: walls of local basalt and trachyte, wooden staircases, exposed beams, a “taulatu” floor and stone fireplaces.
The some three thousand works, largely original and dating from the 18th to the 20th century, were gathered across the territory with the help of the local population. They document the rural and pastoral life of the Marghine and the work of craftsmen.
The route is divided into fourteen rooms organised by “arts”: the kitchen with the “sos furreddos” (the ovens), the cellar and dairy, the cobbler’s workshop, the blacksmith’s forge and the carpenter’s workshop. The visit ends in the bedrooms, furnished with 19th-century household objects.
