About the museum
The Broglio archaeological park lies in Trebisacce, on a spur-shaped hill overlooking the Sibari plain, about 150–180 metres above the plain. The protohistoric settlement covers about 11 hectares and was continuously inhabited for roughly a thousand years, approximately between 1600 and 700 BC; it is an example of an Oenotrian village. The site is naturally protected by the Marzuca canal to the north and east and by a steep slope down to the Saraceno fiumara to the south-west, while a spring in the canal provided water.
The research was carried out by Sapienza Università di Roma under the direction of Renato Peroni. Since 2014 the park has been open to the public and is run by the local association ASAS, in cooperation with the municipality of Trebisacce. The route covers the settlement areas, including the acropolis and the Castello hill, with reconstructions of huts and kilns and replicas of Oenotrian and Mycenaean vases.
