About the museum
The civic picture gallery of Ceglie Messapica is named after Emilio Notte, a painter from Ceglie who was close to Futurism and worked between Florence and Naples. The artist donated some of his works to the town in 1976, and the gallery was inaugurated the following year, in 1977, in the frescoed rooms of Palazzo Allegretti.
Since May 2016 the gallery has been housed in a wing of the Castello Ducale in the historic centre, in the part owned by the municipality. The other wing houses the municipal library Pietro Gatti. Among the works donated by Notte is the “Crocefissione” (Crucifixion).
