About the museum
The civic museum of Villa Castelli was set up after the restoration of a wing of the castle, which today houses the town hall in Piazza Municipio. The castle has medieval origins and a fortified tower. It belonged to the Imperiali and Ungaro families; in the 20th century it served as a school and barracks, and it also houses the municipal art gallery.
The collection holds mainly archaeological finds from the 4th century BC, including pottery from the Pezza Petrosa necropolis. Part of the grave goods from that site, however, is deposited at the Museo archeologico nazionale di Taranto.
