About the museum

The municipal picture gallery “Salvatore Cavallo” is housed in a large building in the centre of San Michele Salentino, a few metres from the Palazzo Comunale (town hall). The building has two floors linked by a wide, winding staircase; a spacious hall gives access to the bookshop and the library.

The library has a creative play area for the youngest children and hosts the youth information desk and other services for citizens. The numerous works of the municipal collection, kept in the gallery's storerooms, are displayed on a rotating basis at the municipal headquarters, which serves as an exhibition annex.
