About the museum
The model railway collection takes its name from the marquis Gioacchino Capelletti, a model railway enthusiast since boyhood, who built up the collection over his lifetime. The collection was donated together with the villa that houses it, Villa Capelletti, on the southern outskirts of Città di Castello.
The collection includes more than 150 models at 1:20 and 1:40 scale. The core consists of eleven working steam locomotives, seventeen passenger carriages and eighty-eight freight wagons; the set is completed by a diorama of a period station.
The collection forms part of the Garavelle museum complex, which also includes the Centro delle tradizioni popolari “Livio Dalla Ragione”.
