About the museum
The room is located in the town hall of Domodossola, in Piazza Repubblica dell’Ossola, and is also known as the Sala consiliare (council chamber). From 9 September to 22 October 1944 it housed the provisional government executive of the Ossola Partisan Republic.
It was set up as a museum in 1984 with the help of Resistance associations and, after renovation for the sixtieth anniversary of the Republic, reopened on 17 February 2006. The municipal council still meets here today.
The walls are covered with photographic panels with captions about the Resistance in Ossola. In the centre is a reproduction of the old horseshoe-shaped table, with copies of documents and newspapers of the time under glass; a display case holds the historic civic banner decorated with the gold medal for military valour, and the portrait of Ettore Tibaldi occupies the place of honour.
