About the museum
The exhibition “Terra di Nessuno” opened in Rocca di Roffeno, a hamlet of Castel d’Aiano, on 14 April 2024, on the anniversary of one of the hardest battles fought along the Gothic Line in the Bologna Apennines. On 14 April 1945 American forces attacked the mountain overlooking the village, in an offensive that allowed the Allies to break through the German defensive line in that sector, supported by one of the heaviest concentrations of artillery and air fire of the Italian campaign.
The permanent exhibition was created by the associations Teamleggero and 14aprile45 and gathers hundreds of finds recovered in the area: American and German helmets, canteens, uniforms, ammunition crates, cannon and mortar shells, small arms, parts of military vehicles and original leaflets dropped on German positions to invite soldiers to surrender. Images of the offensive and diary pages complete the story.
