About the museum
The Aldara Beer Workshop is the most modern beer museum in the Baltic states and the first in Latvia. It is located in the historic Aldara quarter on the outskirts of Riga, in Sarkandaugava. After extensive reconstruction and investments of more than €1.5 million in renovating the building and creating the beer exhibition, the museum opened its doors in May 2015.
The museum's pride is the authentic brewhouse hall, which has been preserved intact since 1938. Its old copper brewing kettles are a rarity. Using the latest technology, visitors can explore the magic of the four main beer ingredients – water, hops, malt and yeast – interactively, right at these kettles.
The museum covers 800 square metres across three floors and complements the brewery in the second wing of the building, which brews Aldara beer varieties every day. Visitors learn about the diversity of beer brewed in Latvia and elsewhere in the world and about the secrets of brewing, can try brewing with their own hands and taste different types of beer. The museum also offers a collection of historic beer exhibits and masterclasses.
