About the museum

The Baroque manor complex of Apriķi formed on the Alokste River at the beginning of the 18th century. The manor house was built by 1742; its octagonal tower in neo-Gothic forms was added in the 19th century. Most of the other buildings – barn, brewhouse and mill – were built in the second half of the 19th century, and a small landscape park was laid out at the same time.

From the 16th century the estate belonged to the von Osten-Sakens family, from 1790 to 1852 to the von Kroft family, and at the beginning of the 20th century its owner was Karls Gustavs Manerheims, later President of Finland. Today the Apriķi Museum is housed in the manor house, and its exhibitions tell the ancient history of the area. Gnomes have also made their home in the museum.
