About the museum
The Kazdanga Museum is housed in Kazdanga Castle, a state-protected architectural monument whose foundation stone was laid in 1800. The building was erected under the direction of the architect J. G. A. Berlics and is one of the most monumental Classicist buildings in Courland. The palace was burned down in 1905, so its historic interior has not survived, but the hall on the second floor is striking for its special acoustics.
The museum presents the story of the influential Manteifeļu–Scēges baronial family, the formation and activity of the Kazdanga agricultural technical school over almost 80 years, an exhibition devoted to the history of the Kazdanga pharmacy and an extensive exhibition of the Boju meža muzejs. Visitors can take a tour of the park and take part in creative workshops in the castle.
