About the museum
The Brīvvalsts dārgumu nams (Treasure House of the Free State) stands on the bank of the Rēzekne River, next to the ancient hill fort. The building was restored from a derelict structure, keeping the original stone walls, and opened in summer 2022.
The exhibition hall displays several hundred objects from private collections in Latvia and abroad: Latvian military and civil decorations, honour badges, orders, documents, photographs, swords and the chain of office of the Mayor of Rēzekne, with the focus on Latgale and Rēzekne. A permanent section is devoted to the Latvian Riflemen. The exhibition includes interactive elements, among them a virtual try-on of decorations and digital screens.
