About the museum
On 14 June 1941 and 25 March 1949 the Soviet occupation regime carried out mass deportations, expelling tens of thousands of people from Latvia. From Skrunda railway station 2916 people were deported; the station was the collection point for people selected for deportation from the Skrunda and Kuldīga area.
In remembrance of these events, a memorial stone was erected by the station, along with a four-axle wagon, the first wagon museum in Latvia. The wagon was built in the 1950s, and it was exactly such cattle wagons that were used to transport people to Siberia. Inside the wagon is a permanent exhibition with photographs, letters, memories, documents and handmade objects of those deported from Skrunda station.
