About the museum
In the early 20th century Prince Mihaels fon Līvens built up his library at Pelči Palace with great care, gathering about 6000 books. Today his books are no longer in the palace, but the authentic interior has been preserved. The library of Pelči Palace is the only preserved library of its kind in Latvia; here one can see the unique oak interior and the old central heating system, through whose built-in hatches in the bookcases warm air once flowed.
To give the room its original purpose back, the wooden spiral staircase was restored as part of the project and the interactive exhibition “Stāstu skapji” (Story Cabinets) was created. The shelves are once again filled with symbolic books that hold stories about the history of the palace and Pelči parish; the exhibition is supplemented by audio guide narratives and light projections on the ceiling.
