About the museum
The museum began work in 1951 as a branch of the Jēkabpils Local History and Art Museum in Koknese park; because of the construction of the Pļaviņas hydroelectric power station its premises had to be closed. In 1973 the branch became an independent Stučkas Vēstures un mākslas muzejs (Stučka History and Art Museum), housed in the Lutheran church of Koknese.
On 18 November 1989 the first exhibition opened in Aizkraukle, in the house “Kalna ziedi” (Hilltop Flowers), historically owned by the Dannenfeldt family. The museum’s grounds were later extended with a depository (1994), an exhibition hall (2000) and an open depository (2014). In 2018 the museum’s collection held 86,809 items; the museum also holds solstice festivals, Kalēju diena (Blacksmiths’ Day) in July and a candle-making workshop.
