About the museum
The Meteorite Museum Meteoriti.LV, formerly known as the Mazo meteorītu muzejs (Small Meteorite Museum), was founded in 2015 as the first museum in Latvia in the field of meteorite research. The museum keeps the private collection of the Meteoriti.LV project, which is considered the largest in the Baltic states and even in the wider region.
The collection contains micro- and macrometeorite fragments from all continents. It includes more than 10% of all meteorites observed to have fallen on Earth, and many of them are older than the planet itself – up to 4.5 billion years old. The museum invites visitors to touch the meteorites, so that space can be felt with the hands.
Visits take place in sessions, which must be booked in advance on the museum website or by e-mail. The ticket price includes viewing the exhibits and a popular science lecture, and visitors spend on average more than two hours in the museum. The museum also offers special evening and night sessions.
