About the museum
The Mucu muzejs (Barrel Museum) is located on a farmstead about 17 km from Valmiera and only 1 km from the Valmiera–Rīga road. Here you can see oak barrels and the tools of old coopers, and take part in barrel making together with the master. The museum's hosts maintain a sign of Latvian heritage, as all the old craftsmen's tools and methods are used in barrel making.
Several programmes are offered: the small programme without barrel boiling (about 1.5 hours), the jubilee programme (about 2.5 hours), the large programme with barrel boiling and tightening (3.5–4 hours), as well as wedding and bachelor programmes. School groups are also hosted.
