About the museum
The manor house of Ungurmuiža was built in 1732 as the residence of the family of Baron von Campenhausen, and it is the only surviving Baroque-style wooden manor in Latvia. It was one of the first large buildings erected in Vidzeme after the Great Northern War, and with its mansard roof and mezzanine it set the architectural model for the following decades.
The manor's interiors with 18th-century wall paintings were created by the Limbaži artist Georgs Dīterihs Hinšs; from the floors to the attic they form a harmonious, gentle world of images. The manor ensemble is surrounded by centuries-old oaks and limes.
The interior can be viewed on a guided tour by prior phone arrangement, but the manor is also used for private celebrations and seminars. At present the manor can also be viewed from the outside.
