About the museum
The Ogres Vēstures un mākslas muzejs (Ogre History and Art Museum) was founded in 1981. Its task is to research the history of the Ogre district, to collect and preserve its tangible and intangible heritage, to educate the public and to promote the cultural history of the district. The museum is an institution set up by the Ogre municipality.
The museum has two sites open to visitors in Ogre. At Brīvības iela 36 are the exhibition “Pietura Ogre” (Pietura Ogre) and the exhibition halls, and at Brīvības iela 2 the exhibition “Brīvības ceļš” (Road of Freedom). The two sites have different opening hours, and there is also a joint ticket.
The museum offers tours in Latvian and English, museum education programmes and exhibitions, and cooperates methodically with the other museums of the Ogre district and with cultural heritage sites.
