About the museum
The history of the Enerģētikas muzejs began in 1995 with the creation of an energy heritage collection. In 2006 the museum’s exhibition space became the former Daugavas spēkstaciju vēstures muzejs (Daugava Hydropower Stations History Museum) in Ķegums, and in 2007, within “Muzeju nakts” (Museums’ Night), the museum opened its doors to visitors for the first time. In June 2025 the museum celebrated its 30th anniversary.
It is the only museum of its kind in Latvia that allows visitors to delve into the development of energy and industrial heritage, and it promotes children’s and young people’s interest in STEM subjects. Its collection holds the glass plate negatives of the photographer Eduards Kraucs (1898–1977) on the construction of the Ķegums power station in 1936–1940, which are included in the Latvian register of the UNESCO programme “Pasaules atmiņa” (Memory of the World). The museum is maintained by the joint-stock company “Latvenergo”.
